A4, upgrade of the Dalmine junction
Description of the project
The project regards the upgrade of the Dalmine junction at km 168+300 on the A4 motorway on the Milan-Bergamo section. A new entry ramp for the toll station is to be built and the existing ramp for traffic exiting from the station and heading on to the local road network is to be upgraded. The aim is to increase the permeability of the infrastructure and reduce interference with local roads.
The initiative involves the municipalities of Dalmine and Stezzano in the province of Bergamo and is of major importance for local industry and the economy of the area, one of the most densely industrialised areas in Italy and Europe (the steelworks in Dalmine, Km-Rosso, Brembo, etc).
Following submission of the draft design to local authorities, the consents process began. The process was completed with the positive outcome to the Services Conference in June 2020.
In line with the legislation in force, final consent from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport was received on 21 February 2023. Work began in the first half of 2023 and will last for a total of 16 months. To ensure completion on schedule, preparatory work began in November 2022.
Where necessary, temporary roads will be created with a view to keeping traffic moving.
Community initiatives
These initiatives, financed and designed by Autostrade per l'Italia, regard the planting of vegetation around the ramps:
- the installation of noise absorbent barriers where receptors are located;
- construction of part of a cycleway.
