200 km of new third and fourth lanes built

Al 31 December 2007 works were completed and about 200 km were opened to traffic, of which:
  • 174.7 km of the Autostrade per l'Italia network
  • 21.9 km of Autostrade per l'Italia's group of subsidiaries
The table below illustrates in detail the status of the works by Autostrade per l'Italia included in the Agreement of 1997 and in the IV Additional Document (to the same Agreement) of 2004.


The works of the 1997 Agreement

  At 31 December 2007 works have been completed on approximately 137,3 km of the network, amounting to 58% of the length of the overall plan of 1997:

The works of the IV "Additional Document" of 2004

The IV "Additional Document", signed by Autostrade per l'Italia in December 2002, became effective only in June 2004 with ANAS notifying the registration of the Document by the Court of Accounts. Only since then has it been possible to start the design and authorisation procedures as per current legislation.

At 31 December 2007 works had been completed on more than 37 km of network, amounting to 13% of the overall plan for 2004.

* It is not possible to predict a date of opening to traffic as the project is undergoing a "sharing procedure" with the area.
** Assessment of Environmental Impact

(1) On 9 June 2007 the entire section was opened to traffic with the opening of the northbound Gardelletta Tunnel (840 m) under provisional operating conditions.
(2) For lot 6-7 the final design is under way by the company (integrated tender)
(3) Firenze Nord - Firenze-Scandicci section:
- On 10 March 2006 the junction of Scandicci was opened to traffic.
- On 21 December 2006 the southbound carriageway was opened to traffic with provisional signage.
- On 5 April 2007 the northbound carriageway was opened to traffic with provisional signage.
(4) Works are in progress on the Nazzano tunnel with completion forecast for December 2007.
(5) The lane was made available in December 2007 and the dynamic 3rd lane was opened to traffic on 16 January 2008, immediately after the technical tests, some 6 months in advance of the contractual deadline.
(6) The 4th lane was fully opened to traffic in September 2007. Completion- and accessory works are under way that will be completed by the end of summer 2008.
(7) The connection was opened to traffic in March 2005 with the inauguration of the new Fiera Milano junction. Some works are in progress. Their completion is expected for February 2008, just 14 months from the areas being free from interferences and obstructions.
(8) ASPI cancelled the procedure for assigning Lot 7A as the works must be effected in conjunction with Lot 7B, possibly in more than one lots. The related notice was published in the Official EU Gazette on 24/11/07. On 14/11/07 the President of Italy decreed the conclusion with favourable result of the State-Region agreement. Currently pending are the registration by the Court of Accounts and the Publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Italy.
(9) It is not possible to predict a date of opening to traffic as the project is awaiting closure of the Services Conference.
(10) It is not yet possible to predict a date for its opening to traffic as the plan is still in its preliminary phase.
